Mike was born and raised in Toronto and has been a resident in and
around Mahone Bay for the past sixteen years. Mike has been taking
photos for the past 30 years. It has only been in the past few years
that Mike has moved into a more creative phase of his photography.
His interest in pursuing this creativity led Mike to study the Buddhist
contemplative photography of Miksang with John McQuade, a 30-year
veteran of the technique. Miksang translates from Tibetan as “Good Eye.”
With this method the photographer waits for the “flash of perception”
and works to capture the essence of that moment. It is these flashes of
perception that are on display here.

For this series Mike selected photographs from his body of work that
held to the theme of water. “It seemed the most logical element to
choose first, given Nova Scotia’s geographic uniqueness—being almost
completely surrounded by water,” Mike says.
